 ct: This session explores the Māori relationship with nature in Aotea
 roa\, where rivers\, mountains\, and forests are not resources to be m
 anaged but ancestors to be in relationship with. The session also exam
 ines what happens when that worldview meets the demands of resource ex
 traction\, freshwater governance\, and conservation policy. Through fi
 rst-hand perspective and concrete case examples including the Whanganu
 i River’s legal personhood and the ongoing freshwater conflicts\, st
 udents will encounter a genuinely different framework for thinking abo
 ut the human relationship with the natural world.
